Thursday Thirteen - 13 Ways to Reduce Offset Your Carbon Imprint - Save the Earth

This entry in the Thursday Thirteen meme was inspired by Hecate and a video she recently featured on her blog about the plight of our planet.

What is a Carbon Imprint?  It is the approximation of the mark that you leave on the earth every year.  It is measured by the total CO2 that you contribute to the planet both directly and indirectly.

You can approximate yours at sites such as this one or this one.

How can you offset your imprint?

  1. Plant trees
  2. Use compact fluorescent light bulbs
  3. Only run a FULL dishwasher/washing machine
  4. Take shorter showers
  5. Wash clothes in cold water
  6. Recycle
  7. Buy less
  8. Turn down the thermostat
  9. Buy local produce
  10. Don’t use TV for background noise
  11. Turn off lights in empty rooms
  12. Eat less meat
  13. Unplug electronics chargers when not in use

Blessings to you and yours

  1. All great advice. Have a great TT. :)

  2. I’m doing my best with all of these, but I still feel like it’s not enough. :(

Happy TT anyway. Maybe even a little bit is enough.

  3. Dryer Sheets Aren’t Just for Drying

Collect pet hairBefore the hair sheds, rub the pet with a dyer sheet. All the lose hairs will stick.
Dusting Used dryer sheets are great for dusting ceiling fans, tables, or any other surface with dust. They are a lot cheaper than conventional dust…

  4. Great info….something to live by :) Happy TT.

  5. Great and informative list. Thanks.

  6. Great list.
Although, I have done number 2 and I do not like them. They burn out in our house within 6 months and they are suppose to last 5 to 7 years.

We are really good about turning off lights when not in use.

    Happy T13!

  7. Great list.

  8. I’m already doing 2, 3, 5, 10 and 11, and I’ll be glad to do more.

  9. What an educational Thursday 13 :)

  10. #13 is the hardest for me…some of those plugs are buried behind furniture and we were lucky to get them in once.

This was great - something that has been on my mind quite a bit lately - thank you.

  11. I use the Mini-Spirals, they’re adorable! I don’t own a dishwasher, don’t like them. I haven’t watched tv in weeks, been eating less meat, but I had no idea about #13!!! Will do!

  12. What a wonderful TT! I hope a lot of people take it by heart. I know I do; not always successful, but I’m doing what I can!
Thanks for visiting my activities TT.

  13. All great suggestions — and I can honestly say I try my best to keep Earth a healthy place….but I’m not perfect yet!
    Happy TT!

  14. I do most of those. One of my favorite gadgets I bought when I bought my house is my thermostat timer. I only have heat no A/C and in Winter, it only increases the heat when I’m home and awake. It knows which are the weekdays and which are the weekends too. I keep it at 62deg when I’m not at home or asleep and at 69 when I’m awake. My mother who’s from NM actually dislikes coming to visit because she says I keep the house too cold. Heh.

  15. [...] last Thursday Thirteen post was on 8/29/2007 …. I wandered away from the popular meme and have recently realized how much I miss it and so [...]
