GamerDude and I have a subscription to Time Magazine … one of those free ones that we got … somehow.
Today we read this article and were intrigued to learn that someone based a blog on taking old Garfield comic strips, erasing Garfield himself and letting the result well … speak for itself. It began on 2/13/08 and already made it into Time magazine … that alone should tell you something.
Who would have guessed that when you remove Garfield from the Garfield comic strips, the result is an even better comic about schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and the empty desperation of modern life? Friends, meet Jon Arbuckle. Let’s laugh and learn with him on a journey deep into the tortured mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness in a quiet American suburb.
Who knew that after spending parts of my childhood reading Garfield and finding it amusing that I would re-discover them in my adulthood?
Who knew that I would read the same strips “minus Garfield” and wind up laughing out loud with tears streaming down my face?
Who knew that after all these years that Garfield was and is about a man living a sad lonely life talking to a cat only he can see?
Who knew that that would wind up being so F-ing funny?
Really …..
Truly …..

Wow. I didn’t know this existed. My mom adores Garfield so I probably shouldn’t show here these–because she likes the fat, orange cat and not John, lol.
