Reiki In Every Day Life

Today’s post is not about Womon Gathering - aren’ t you relieved?  I am sure some of you have thought - ”isn’t it about time those 2 witches talked about something else.”  LOL

We enjoyed sharing our experiences at Womon Gathering with all of you, and we hope you enjoyed reading about it.   I’m sure we could go on and on for a few more days but blogging and life must go on.  From time to time though we will post a little bit here and there about Womon Gathering and of course remind our readers when it is time for early registration.

Essential Reiki is my new obssession.   I have been practicing self-reiki every day since taking the classes (at Womon Gathering).  Most days I don’t have time to do a “full-session” (laying hands in every position to cover the entire body), but I do use it a little throughout the day and always before going to sleep at night, even if it’s just to hold one hand position on my body for a few minutes.   The result is I have been sleeping so much better.

My previous sleep pattern for the past 14 years or so has been to wake up several times during the night (usually because I have to pee about 3 to 4 times a night), and finally just get up and stay up some where between 2 and 3 a.m., resulting in about 4 maybe 5 hours of sleep that has been broken up into mini segments that were not recuperative, and left me drained and exhausted throughout the day.

Since practicing self-reiki for the past few weeks, I have only been getting up once during the night and have been able to almost instantly fall back asleep until about 5 a.m. (sometimes as late as 5:30 a.m.).  I have been feeling much better.   I have less time for blogging and other things now, but getting a restful night’s sleep is much more important.

I also use Reiki throughout the day whenever I have few quiet moments here and there, at my desk, at a red light, etc.  I also use it when I feel my tension and stress levels rising.  I have noticed that the upper area of my abdomen “feels” the stress first, so that is where I place my hands, and when possible at the same time close my eyes and do some deep breathing.  This “tension” sometimes happens for no apparant external cause (or as it is sometimes called - “the sense of impending doom!”), and most likely some of it’s roots are a “body pattern or habit” of mine, which just happens because my body has become so used to being tense and under stress that being in that state feels “normal.”

(Background FYI:  Since about age 2 between a sicko pervert father, extreme proverty, and having rhumatoid arthritis, followed by a rape at age 8, and continued stressful events, (including cervical cancer at age 20), for the next several decades, so that now my body, mind and heart have a hard time just “being” and that a feeling of underlying tension and fear have been “programmed”  into the cells, and it needs to be released and healed, and doing self-Reiki is an excellant tool for this.  At least this the “insight” I have gotten from my spirit guide and Reiki guides about it.)

The result so far of doing self-Reiki, as been that the “tension” for no reason happens less often, and it dissipates fairly quickly now as soon as I place my hands on the area.

When there is an obvious external cause for feeling stress or tension, I have been able to handle it much better.  For example, I had a tiny disagreement with my hubby last week, which for me meant I would normally in past have been a “major disagreement” and I would end up getting angry and the whole thing would escalate, and then I’d end up mentally and emotionally spiraling into depression and a negative train of thoughts like “how stupid I am, I never do anything right, etc. etc. etc.”    This time, however, as soon as the situation started, I applied self-reiki, while staying calm and discussing the situation, and taking a break when it was obvious that one was needed, so that when we did have a discussion later it was productive and calm, rather then more “fighting.”

Life isn’t perfect, and never will be.   And my health issues are not going to just disappear overnight (though I’m open to a miracle should one chose to happen).   But so far, I have found Reiki to be an excellant tool to help me throughout the day, to sleep better at night, and I’m positive the more I use it the better I will feel mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually and therfore better able to handle the bad times and better able to enjoy the good times.

I am studying and practicing, but not putting myself on any kind of time table or stress about it.  As our instructor said, “take care of self first” and that is what I am doing.  She also taught us that we when were ready to practice Reiki on others and perhaps move on to also teaching Reiki that we would know it.   My plan is to one day do both, but I am going to let it unfold in it’s own time and it’s own way.

Bright blessings, Lady Rose

NOTE:  I’ve added a new category to our other blog Stir the Cauldron - Reiki Journal, where I’ll post infomration and experiences with Reiki

  1. Merry meet, Lady Rose

I found your blog when I was searching for RSS feeds around mindfulness, meditation and the Pagan part of my life, and I’ve been reading for the past couple of days… but this post kind of jumped out at me and seemed to invite me to comment :-)

I’ve been having some pretty major sleep issues over the past six months - around New Year I developed a hacking dry cough that refused to go away, although it is sometimes manageable symptomatically via doctors and specialists - it’s actually not the cough that bothers me so much as what waking up every hour or so in paroxysms of coughing does for my ability to function the next day… or when I have three or four days in a row like that, what it does for my ability to function, full stop.

I have, however, been trained in Reiki, and I think I just got a major ‘ping’ from reading your post, along the lines of the Lady thwapping me upside the head and saying ‘Yo, honey, you’ve had this at your disposal the entire time you’ve had this damn cough, and y’ain’t been using it! So how about you try helping yourself a wee bit here, hmmmmm?’

Or something similar anyway. In that… y’know… delicate way the Lady can have…

So, ummmm… yeah. Just thought I’d leave a comment along those lines, to let you know I was reading, and that said reading had an effect….

    Blessings

  2. Hello Starfire

Ah the cosmic 2×4. We’ve all had that from time to time. While Lady Rose & I both did our Reiki certifications together she is practicing it much more than I.

I wanted to pop in (Im sure she’ll be commenting later) and mention that the first thing I thought when I read about you waking up with a dry cough so often is GERD - gastro esophogeal reflux disease. You might want to google it and see if any of the symptoms fit.

    Blessings to you

  3. Merry Meet Starfire - I’m so glad you took the time to comment. I wholeheartedly urge you (**cough** and Mama Kelly) to do self-Reiki daily. I have several “bumps and bruises” from being “thwarped on the head” over the years, so I can definitely relate, when we don’t listen the Lady will get our attention one way or another. I’m glad the post was just a gentle ping. :)

    Bright Blessings, Lady Rose

  4. Very subtle Lady Rose … very subtle.

:: Walks off to do a few things before work muttering “I know I know” under her breath though whehter she;s talking to her friend, her Goddess, or her guides is anybody’s guess.::

  5. Subtle? ***wanders off cackling***
